Here we present a Smith & Wesson 4th Model Revolver in .38 S&W, made at the turn of the 20th Century in Springfield, Massachusetts. This would have been a nice gun to wear in a small belt holster for self-defense.
This five shot revolver had a nickel finish with hard rubber grips. The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A./ PAT’D MAY 11, 1880. JAN 3, 1888. APRIL 9, 1889”.
The overall condition is fair to good. Traces of the original nickel finish remain. The blue finish on the trigger guard have turned dark with age. The markings are clear. Serial numbers match. The grips are smooth with wear. The bore is fair with good rifling. The action on this revolver is functional.
