Smith & Wesson’s 6-Shot “Kit Gun” FACTORY BOXED
Here Ancestry Guns presents a Smith & Wesson Model 34-1 Double Action Revolver “Kit” Gun, made circa 1973-77 in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1911, the Kit Gun line began as the 22/32 an I-Frame, .22 Long Rifle, 6-shot revolver. These are sometimes called the "pre-war" models. In 1953, an improved model was introduced, the "22/32 Kit Gun, Model of 1953”. In 1958, Smith and Wesson renamed it the Model 34. This production line continued until 1960, when it was redesigned using the slightly larger J-frame and marketed as the model 34–1. The Model 34 continued to be manufactured until 1991.
The origin of the term “kit gun” came about many years ago when the need was felt for a small, accurate .22 caliber revolver that could be packed easily in a hunting or fishing “kit”. Not to be confused with what some consider today as a “Kit” gun, as one that is assembled by the buyer. This was a gun manufactured in Springfield to go into your hunting or fishing “kit”.
Such a gun would be ideal for bagging small game, snake protection, economical plinking fun or in an emergency, self-defense. Smith & Wesson fulfilled this need with a series of small-frame, adjustable-sight high quality revolvers with 2 and 4-inch barrels.
The overall condition is very fine. Original blue finish and case colors. The action is excellent in both double and single action modes. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. Grips are in fine condition. Comes in a correct box for the model but is not serial numbered.
