Documented WWII S&W Victory
Model .38 Revolver C. 1942
Description: Documented WWII S&W Victory Model .38 Revolver C. 1942
Offered here and just acquired is this truly fine conditioned authentic Smith & Wesson Victory model .38 revolver. This unfired WWII issue Smith & Wesson Victory Model .38 has a 4" barrel. The specimen, serial number V107430 is all original. It comes with a factory letter stating that it was shipped 9-23-1942 to Bethlehem Steel in Reedville, Pennsylvania.
Serial number in the V107430 range places it in late 1942 production, which matches the factory letter shipping date of September 23, 1942. The “V” prefix stood for “Victory,” and these revolvers were wartime adaptations of the long-running Smith & Wesson Military & Police revolver (later known as the Model 10).
This example is especially interesting because it was shipped to Bethlehem Steel at Reedville, Pennsylvania. During WWII, major defense contractors and shipbuilding facilities received Victory Models for plant security forces, guards, inspectors, and war-production personnel. Bethlehem Steel was one of the largest wartime industrial contractors in the United States, heavily involved in armor plate, naval construction, and ordnance production. this documented shipment directly to such a facility gives the revolver much more historical appeal than a typical surplus Victory Model.
Features of this early U.S. contract gun:
4" barrel
Parkerized/sandblast finish rather than polished blue
Smooth walnut grips without medallions
Lanyard ring on butt
.38 Special chambering
“V” serial prefix
Early-war production before later wartime simplifications
Most Victory Models saw heavy service, postwar refinishing, arsenal rebuilds, police use, or British export conversion. Truly original examples with factory documentation are much scarcer today.
The Bethlehem Steel connection is particularly collectible because it represents the often-overlooked “Home Front” wartime security effort. Industrial security guards at steel mills, shipyards, aircraft factories, and ammunition plants were considered strategically critical during the war. For collectors of WWII martial revolvers, this documented early 1942 Bethlehem Steel Victory Model is a highly desirable piece of American wartime history. Overall a 99 %+ conditioned collectible.
