PERSONALLY INSCRIBED Civil War SOLDIER’S S&W No. 1 Revolver SPRINGFIELD, MA Going Away Gift from SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Coworkers!
Description: PERSONALLY INSCRIBED Civil War SOLDIER’S S&W No. 1 Revolver SPRINGFIELD, MA Going Away Gift from SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Coworkers! Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Model No. 1. 2nd Issue Revolver manufactured circa 1864 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This example is inscribed with "S.L. Buckland;/from the '3rd Borers,' U.S. Armory/Springfield, Mass./Aug 26, 1864." on the side plate. This was presented to Solomon L. Buckland by his co-workers at Springfield Armory, calling themselves the 3rd Borers. This gift was given just before Solomon enlisted at age 27 and mustered into the 30th Company of the Massachusetts Unattached Heavy Artillery. The Smith & Wesson was fitting, given that it too was made in Springfield, Massachusetts. Solomon is listed as an armorer but given the moniker his friends gave themselves it was likely that he specifically worked as a barrel maker. Other of his family seemed to have worked at Springfield Armory and in the gunmaking trade themselves. Research will be included. Solomon would muster out in June of 1865. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape. The rosewood grips are very good. A truly personal connection to a Civil War soldier and his armorer pals! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-3/16 inches. Caliber: .22 Short Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1650 #20020 SOLD Antique: Yes |
