SMITH & WESSON 1917 Army Model .45 LC
Description: Guns Listing ID: 627857 The M1917 Army Revolver was a critical supplement to the M1911 pistol during both World Wars. Produced by both Colt and Smith & Wesson, it was designed to fire the standard military .45 ACP cartridge. The Two Variations Though both were designated \"M1917,\" they were different designs with no interchangeable parts: - Smith & Wesson M1917: Based on their heavy \"N-Frame\" .44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model. It is easily identified by the forward locking lug on the ejector rod. S&W cylinders were machined with a \"shoulder\" inside the chambers, allowing the rimless .45 ACP rounds to headspace properly and fire even without clips. Key Innovation: Moon Clips - Because the .45 ACP is a rimless cartridge intended for semi-autos, a standard revolver‚s star extractor cannot grip the rounds to eject them. - Half-Moon Clips: S&W developed these semi-circular steel clips that hold three rounds each. Two clips fill the six-shot cylinder. - Full-Moon Clips: Later developments allowed all six rounds to be held in a single circular clip, functioning much like a modern speedloader. Action: Double Action / Single Action Barrel Length: 5.5 inches Weight: ~36 oz (2.25 lbs) Finish: Polished Blue (WWI) / Parkerized (WWII) Markings: \"UNITED STATES PROPERTY\" under barrel SOLD Manufacturer: SMITH & WESSON Model: 1917 Army Model Caliber Info: .45 LC Condition: Used - Non-Certified Barrels: 5.5" BARREL Action: REVOLVER Finish: blued |
