Description:
Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 25, marked 45 cal. Model 1955 on the right side of the barrel. It's the 5 screw frame; 6-1/2 inch barrel; one of the first ones made in this configuration. Made before they called them a Model 25, it's serial number is 1307** making it one of the very first ones made, all the numbers are matching. The books state they started making these pre-model 25's at approximatley 150,000, so this must be one of the first in the 130,000 serial number range.  It's all original and in near new condition retaining 99% of it's original blued finish and case colored finish on the target trigger & hammer. Comes with the correct Diamond checkered Target grips, serial numbered to the gun, made out of American walnut. The grips have a couple of mark's on the bottom of them yet are still great looking. The bore and action are like new, no buggered screws. This is a good addition for any collection, the only way it could be better is if it had the box and papers. This early 5 screw frame variation was only made for a short time as they came out with this model  in 1955 and went to the 4 screw frame in 1957-58.  A pre-model 29 5 screw books for 3,500.00 in 98% and this 45acp Target model 1955 is probably way more rare.
