Smith & Wesson "Highway Patrolman" 4 Screw Pre Model 28 .357 Magnum Blue 6" Barrel **MFG. 1956**
Description:
The Highway Patrolman "Pre-Model 28" was introduced in 1954 as a utility version of the Pre-Model 27 primarily for law enforcement use. Built on a square butt N frame, it featured a satin blue finish, smooth non-serrated top strap and barrel rib, shrouded ejector rod, semi target hammer, and standard serrated trigger. Adjustable micrometer click rear sight and 1/8" Baughman Quick Draw front sight were standard. This S prefix serial numbered gun was produced in 1956-1957, shows no model number and a 4 screw frame. The original satin blue finish rates at approximately 95% with some high edge wear and thinning on the edges of the muzzle and cylinder from being holstered. There is a visible turn line on the cylinder, but gun appears to have been fired very litlle. The action locks up tight and is in perfect time. The bore is bright and the chambers are clean. All screw heads are unmolested and there is no evidence of any action work performed. The Target stocks are from a later gun, as this gun would have come with diamond Target or Magna grips. The grips are in very nice condition and are unnumbered. A very nice Pre-Model 28 Highway Patrolman that would make an excellent shooter.
