Superb all original very near mint condition circa 1963 with letter detailing it as shipped with special order 4” barrel which the factory charged “$10.00 for cutting the barrel” and “$4.50 for the red insert front sight”. All other features are listed in the letter as well. It was shipped to Evaluators Limited in Triangle, Va. Home of Quantico Marine Base and was ordered by and owned by the late Col. Brooke Nihart famous Marine Corps historian and author of the definitive book on Marine Corps history “SEMPER FIDELIS”. Col. Nihart was also the founder of the original Marine Corps Museum in the Washington Navy Yard and was instrumental in laying the ground work for the new National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. Col. Nihart was a WW2, Korean War and Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Navy Cross. Col. Nihart was also the author of the famous Marine Corps “Code of Conduct” which all Marines are required to abide by. With letter from the Marine Corps Major who purchased it from Col. Nihart before his passing in 2006.
