Taurus Model 608 8-shot .357 Magnum 4” New in Box
Description: The Taurus Model 608 is very comparable to the Smith & Wesson Model 627. It too features an eight-shot cylinder, giving the shooter those two extra shots that might make the difference between life and death in a defensive situation. The example shown here is SKU # 2-608049. It features a 4-inch long, ported barrel. The porting helps to reduce recoil and muzzle flip, reducing time between follow-up shots. The barrel also has a full lug to reduce recoil. The rubber grip provides a generous amount of padding on the backstrap to reduce wear to the user’s hand. This can be an issue for revolvers with exposed backstraps. Over the course of shooting such a gun, the user will begin to feel pain in theof the hand because the force of the recoil is being directly sent into the user’s hand and wrist. A rubber backstrap helps reduce this wear quite significantly. The sights are the usual adjustable rear and red ramp front found on most revolvers today. The yoke (or crane) features a spring-loaded plunger that fits into a recess inside the frame under the barrel, acting as a third locking point. This effectively makes the 608 a stronger firearm than many older revolvers as the cylinder is locked into place in three places instead of two. The 608 with 4” barrel is also very well balanced though at 45 oz. (unloaded), it is slightly heavier than its competitor. By comparison, the Smith & Wesson Model 627 Performance Center (SKU 178014) weighs 41.4 oz. with a 4” barrel. On the other hand, the 608 is much more affordable than the S&W. Unfortunately, S&W no longer offers a non-Performance Center of the 627 at a better price. Chambered for the legendary .357 Magnum, the 608 would make an excellent home defense gun as well something fun to shoot at the range. This 608 is brand new in the box. As stated in the title, this Model 608 is mismarked, being stamped “44” on the right side of the frame just below the serial number. This number would normally identify the pistol as a Model 44, which is chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge. It would not necessarily indicate the caliber, however as Taurus stamps the caliber of their revolvers on the bottom of the barrel. What the frame should have been stamped with is “608”. A mismarked is not actually uncommon. From time to time, among S&W revolvers, an N-frame revolver in .44 Magnum will be found with “Mod. 57” stamped on the yoke or a .41 Magnum with the stamp “Mod. 29-2”. It happens more often than manufacturers will admit. Essentially what happens is that a frame, having already been stamped with the intended model number, will be taken out of the container where stripped frames are stored (until assembly) and then the barrel and cylinder are added. For whatever reason, the manufacturer forgot to make sure that the correct frame was used. At the end of the day, it doesn’t change the revolver in any way. It is still a Model 608 with 4” barrel.
