Cased Tranter No. 2 Sheath-Trigger Revolver (Liverpool Retailed)
Description: Serial #8878, .320 RF, 3 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good, lightly freckled bore. This is a very nice, seven-shot model, and is retailer marked along the top of the barrel: "ROBT. JONES 3 GT. HOWARD ST. LIVERPOOL" with Tranter "football" marking on the left side at the breech. The metal retains 90-95% of the original lustrous blue finish on the barrel, cylinder pin, cylinder, hammer, trigger, and loading gate; with some silvering along the high edges, and some fading on a few surfaces. The cylinder also has some mild fading to plum-brown in spots along its circumference. The frame retains a commensurate amount of the original gilt finish, with some yellow-ochre underlying brass visible along the high and exposed edges. The checkered walnut grips are in very good-fine shape with scattered small handling marks and some mild flattening of the points. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly. The revolver is housed in a period English case with dark blue baize lining, and no accessories. The case was designed for a smaller barrel pistol and now has one of the dividers cut to take this longer barreled revolver. The lining is in good shape, but does have some contact wear through the fabric in a few spots, especially along the back wall. The lid is warped and could be properly steamed and weighted in order to close tighter. This is a handsome cased gun with lots of condition.
