Excellent Antique Webley Mk. I/II Transitional Revolver York House
Description: Serial #43296, .455 Webley, 4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome, commercial revolver, utilizing a Mk. II barrel assembly on a Mk. I frame, that has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, and cylinder, with the metal retaining about 98-99% of the original brushed blue finish that has silvered and faded along the raised edges and projections. The Broad Arrow marked barrel latch and hammer have traces of a flaked Suncorite finish applied, and crisp proofmarks applied, although the serial number is somewhat faint, and the "YORK HOUSE REGENT St. LONDON" retailer marking along the barrel rib exhibits a slightly different color blue. The dark brown, checkered hard rubber grips are in fine shape with some minor flattening of the points, as well as a few minor scratches and handling blemishes. The barrel lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism functions flawlessly. York House was the HQ for the Junior Army & Navy Store, a similarly named competitor to the much better known Army & Navy Cooperative Society Ltd., and guns with their address are seldom seen today. This example is in excellent condition, and would make a fabulous addition to any collection of Webley service revolvers. Antique SOLD Manufacturer: Webley Model: Mk. I Serial Number: 43296 Caliber Info: .455 Gauge Info: .455 |
