SINGAPORE POLICE FORCE Webley & Scott LTD MK IV Revolver Birmingham England British Service Pistol, Used by Singapore Police
Description: SINGAPORE POLICE FORCE Webley & Scott LTD MK IV Revolver Birmingham England British Service Pistol, Used by Singapore Police Here we present a Webley & Scott Mark IV Top Break Revolver in .38, made in Birmingham, England circa the mid-20th Century. British military use of Webley revolvers began in the late-19th Century. Especially favored in the early-20th Century were those chambered for the .455 caliber cartridges. However, at the end of the Great War, it was decided a smaller, more manageable revolver and cartridge combination were desirable, so Webley and the government settled on the .38 S&W cartridge and designed a much smaller 6-shot, top-break revolver to shoot it. This was to be much friendlier as far as recoil and much smaller and lighter than its predecessor in .455, though debatably, not as lethal. Various British police forces, including colonial police forces used these revolvers through the late-20th Century, notably both Hong Kong and Singapore Police. This example is from the Singapore Police Force, who used these revolvers from the 1930s-1970s, and is marked “SPF #” just above the grips on the frame of the gun. The top-strap is marked “WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD/BIRMINGHAM”. The grips are trademarked “WEBLEY”. The entirety of the revolver is littered with proof and acceptance marks. The bottom of the barrel is marked by “CAI”. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match. The grips are in great shape. The bore is excellent; bright and shiny with strong rifling. The action is excellent. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .38-200 (.38 S&W) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #226247 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
