WEBLEY MK IV RARE .230 MORRIS CYLINDER 6" BARREL. EXTREMELY RARE!!!
RETAILED BY J. BLANCH & SON, LONDON. MADE APPROX. 1910. SERIAL NUMBER 1194XX
NUMBER "1" STAMPED ON THE BACKSTRAP, NEAR THE HAMMER.
THE CYLINDER NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH. ***NOTE: The cylinders do not have matching numbers to the guns because the cylinders were produced, inventoried and numbered exclusively for Richard Morris. These guns were adapted after they were produced by Webley as Mark IV's. This is why whenever these guns are referenced, they are identified as "Webley Mark IV .455 Service Revolvers adapted to use Morris cylinders" (Reinhardt, page 224). Only a few hundred modified guns were produced.
ACTUAL GUN IS PICTURED AND DESCRIBED, BY SERIAL NUMBER IN BRUCE & REINHART, PAGE 224.
VERY FEW OF THESE REVOLVERS ARE KNOWN!!!
THIS GUN WAS PURCHASED WHEN THE DOWELL COLLECTION WAS SOLD . I PURCHASED IT FROM THE BUYER'S ESTATE.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL WEBLEY MK IV SERVICE REVOLVER, FITTED WITH THE ADAPTED .297/.230 MORRIS CYLNDER, AND THE BORE DIAMETER ALTERED TO MATCH. THIS WAS DONE AT THE WEBLEY FACTORY.
THE BORE IS A LITTLE ROUGH, BUT BRIGHT & SHINY THROUGHOUT. THE CYLINDER CHAMBERS ARE SMOOTH, BRIGHT AND SHINY.
GRIPS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. LANYARD LOOP PRESENT.
THIS GUN IS MECHANICALLY EXCELLENT!!
HOWEVER, AS NOTED, THE EXTERIOR FINISH HAS PATINA AND LIGHT PITTING OVERALL. (PLEASE SEE PICS).
THIS GUN IS ONE OF THE MOST OBSCURE AND UNUSUAL OF THE WEBLEY REVOLVERS. EXTREMELY RARE!!!
