WWII “WAR FINISH” British WEBLEY Mark IV Revolver British Service Revolver with Holster Rig!
Description: WWII “WAR FINISH” British WEBLEY Mark IV Revolver British Service Revolver with Holster Rig! Here we present a British Webley Mark IV Service Revolver in .38/200, made in Birmingham, England circa 1940. This was the primary British sidearm of The Second World War. At the end of the First World War, the British military decided that the .455 caliber handgun and cartridge were too large for modern military use. After numerous tests it was determined that a pistol in .38 caliber firing a 200-grain bullet would be just as effective as the .455 for stopping an enemy. Webley & Scott immediately tendered the .38/200 caliber Webley Mk IV revolver, which was based on their .38 caliber Webley Mk III pistol, designed for the police and civilian markets. To the surprise of Webley, the British government took the design to the government owned Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock and had them basically copied the same handgun and adopted it. Webley & Scott sued the British Government and were denied, though the Royal Commission on Awards to Inventors eventually awarded Webley & Scott £1250 for their work. RSAF Enfield proved unable to manufacture enough No. 2 revolvers to meet the military's wartime demands, and as a result Webley's Mk IV was also widely used within the British Army in World War II. This one is marked “WAR FINISH” and bears a litany of proof and acceptance markings. This one comes with a rugged canvas holster, belt, and lanyard. The overall condition is near fine. The bore is bright with good rifling. The action remains excellent. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .38/200 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
