UNDERLEVER Wind Gun INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING/HUNTING
Description: WILLIAM STEIN Antique NEW JERSEY Lever Cock .28/7mm Tip-Up GALLERY Air Gun UNDERLEVER Wind Gun INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING/HUNTING Here we present an antique William Stein Breech Loading Underlever Tip-Up Trigger Guard Lever Cocking Air Gun, made circa 1860s-70s in Camden, New Jersey. William Stein is listed as an active maker out of Camden, New Jersey, in the 1860s-1870s. Air guns represent the oldest pneumatic technology out there. The oldest existing mechanical air gun dates back to about 1580 and is in the Livrustkammaren Museum in Stockholm. This is approximately what most historians recognize as the beginning of the modern air gun. Throughout 17th to 19th century, air guns in .30 to .51 calibers were used to hunt big game, deer, and wild boar. These air rifles were charged using a pump to fill an air reservoir and gave velocities from 650 to 1,000 ft/s. They were also used in warfare, the most recognized example being the Girandoni air rifle. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting. "Wind guns" had several advantages over conventional firearms including that they were quieter, smokeless, quicker to reload, and they also required less cleaning since they did not require corrosive black powder. This air gun has a tip-up octagon barrel that releases with a bottom latch and loads from the breech. It has a trigger guard that can be pulled downwards, serving as the cocking lever in order to fill the cylinder air reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. Chambered in approximately .28 caliber / 7mm with a smooth bore. Similar examples are photographed and described on page 99 of "Blue Book of Airguns, Thirteenth Edition." The overall condition is good. The bore is bright and shiny. The action is strong. Original and deep, brown patina. The brass reservoir is in good condition. The stock is solid but has a missing sliver to the left of the tang. Markings legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .28 / 7mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
