The M70 was originally used as the standard-issue infantry rifle of the Yugoslav People‚‚s Army and was officially adopted in 1970 as an upgrade to the aging M59/66. Well-renowned for their reputation, the M70 featured the iconic Yugo-style extended 3-vent handguard as well as the reinforced frame manufactured from thicker steel. The ZPAP designation is an acronym for \"Zastava Polu-Automatska Puška\" which means \"Zastava Semi-Automatic Rifle\", and is the commercial sporting model of the firearm.

This special edition model features a 24-karat gold plating over all metal surfaces of the rifle. One gold-plated 30-round magazine is included
