Alexander Henry & Co Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle
Description:
Originally completed on August 9, 1902 as a .450-400 rifle, likely in black powder express form, this Alexander Henry was later converted to its present and rarely encountered .30-30 Winchester configuration. The replacement Bohler Rasant steel barrels feature a beaded blade front sight, two-leaf rear sight on the smooth flat solid rib, light breech engraving, “DANl. FRASER & Co.” signature on the short rib, import mark beneath the forend, 1997 Birmingham proofs, and automatic ejectors. The casehardened Rogers patent sidelock action is engraved with tasteful classic scrollwork and rope borders surrounding “ALEXh. HENRY & Co.” signatures on each lockplate, with a pleasing mix of niter blued and bright pins. Additional features include bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The rifle is stocked with a finely figured replacement splinter forend with multi-point checkering, engraved fittings, and Anson button release, paired with a pistol grip buttstock featuring teardrop carved drop points, horn grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, blank gold inscription oval, and black serrated buttplate. Included is a modern goatskin leather takedown case marked “M. L./SCARDROY” on the lid and fitted with two nickel oilers and cleaning tools. Length of pull is 14 13/16 inches, and weight is 8 lbs. 2 oz.
Condition:
Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% black finish on the barrels, triggerguard bow, and toplever, 95% plus vivid case colors, and minor handling evidence, a small crack at the rear of the left lockplate, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
