Antique GREEK KARIOPHILI FLINTLOCK MUSKET .62 Cal Independence Early-1800s
GREEK REVOLUTION Era Flintlock Musket
Description: Antique GREEK KARIOPHILI FLINTLOCK MUSKET .62 Cal Independence Early-1800s GREEK REVOLUTION Era Flintlock Musket Here we present an antique Greek Kariofili Flintlock Musket, made circa the early 1800s in Southeastern Europe. The Kariofili was a weapon that has close association with the Greek Revolution of 1821. This was the generic name for the ornate smoothbore flintlock muskets of the time. Though the origin of the name is sometimes disputed, the best legend is that it came from the weapons supplied by a Venetian firm named “Carlo e Figli”, or Carlo and Sons that allegedly was the source of many such weapons to the Greek freedom fighters. The history may have faded, but the name has stuck. The Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution or the Greek Revolution of 1821, was a successful war of independence by Greek revolutionaries against the Ottoman Empire between 1821 and 1829. In 1826, the Greeks became assisted by the British Empire, Kingdom of France, and the Russian Empire, while the Ottomans were aided by their North African vassals, particularly the eyalet of Egypt. The war led to the formation of modern Greece, which would be expanded to include its modern borders in later years. The revolution is celebrated by Greeks around the world as Independence Day on March 25th every year. This one is short, light, and handy for running up and down hill and mountain as the Greek fighters were like to do. It measures 41 ½” overall with a 26 1/8” barrel. It weights just 4.7 lbs. There is a crown motif engraved deeply on the lock. The overall condition is good. Strong action. Smooth bore dim and dusty with age; untouched. The stock is engraved and ornate in design, with only a portion of the buttstock being wood, usually chestnut. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26 inches. Caliber: .62 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1700 #228636 SOLD Antique: Yes |
