c1850 BERKS COUNTY Antique LONG RIFLE by SEIFRIT Curly Maple .36 Caliber
Gorgeous Stock, Engraving, German Silver Furniture
Description: c1850 BERKS COUNTY Antique LONG RIFLE by SEIFRIT Curly Maple .36 Caliber Gorgeous Stock, Engraving, German Silver Furniture Here we present an Antique Berks County, Pennsylvania Long Rifle by Seifret, made circa the mid-19th Century. The barrel is marked “I. SEIFRIT”. The Seifrit family (also Seifried, Seifreed, Seyfried, Seyfrit, Seifert) were German immigrants to the area and were one of the many in the cottage industry of gunmaking in the late-18th through the mid-19th Centuries. This could have been for Isaac Seifrit, though the “I” could also be interpreted as a “J” for John or Jacob, all born around the same time to this family. George Seifrit is known to have worked for Henry Deeds as a barrel “finisher” along the Wyomissing Creek in Berks County, Pennsylvania, just south of Reading. There was a 7 mile stretch along the Creek that had around 27 full time barrel makers. This rifle is a work of art and not just a run of the mill tool of the Frontier, though functional it is. This rifle features a high-grade curly maple stock with vivid striped grain. The hardware is engraved German silver, including the trigger guard, butt plate, patch box, wedge escutcheons, fore end cap, and other décor. It has a small, square initial placard on the top of the wrist. The patch box is opened by a button on the toe of the stock. The barrel is swamped and octagonal. The bore measures about .370” from land to land for a nominal .36 caliber. This rifle is slender and not at all unwieldy. The overall condition is near fine. Original brown finish. Excellent action, crisp double set trigger. Very nice bore with sharp rifling. The stock is simply gorgeous and very solid. “SEIFRIT” is engraved on the right side of the barrel. This is a very beautiful piece of German-American craftsmanship from Berks County! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 39-1/2 inches. Caliber: .36 (Nominal) Percussion (measures approximately .370” from land to land) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4825 #210422 SOLD Antique: Yes |
