Engraved THOMAS BISSELL British Pattern 1856 VOLUNTEER Short Rifle .577 Cal Post-Crimean War Military Rifle
Description: Engraved THOMAS BISSELL British Pattern 1856 VOLUNTEER Short Rifle .577 Cal Post-Crimean War Military Rifle Here we present an antique Pattern 1856 Volunteer Rifle-Musket by Thomas Bissell, made circa the 1850s in London, England. This rifle was a deluxe version of the Pattern 1856 Rifle than would have been encountered among the Regulars. This one features a shorter overall length for handiness, hand-checkering at the wrist and forestock, graduated sights out to 1100 yards, and a bayonet lug. The Volunteer movement circa 1859 was in response to the Crimean War as well as heightened tensions between England and France and the outbreak of war between France & Austria. England had a lot of territory to cover between the British Isles and its colonies, and there was imminent risk of being pulled into another conflict. This was a popular movement to create part-time units at home, similar to what early Americans might have considered militias or what we now call the National Guard, Home Guard, etc. These had a great deal of autonomy initially, though many were eventually folded into the regular British Army. The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent. The bore remains in good shape for its age, dim with thin rifling. Sharp engravings can be seen on the tang, lock, and trigger guard. The barrel has been browned. The checkering on the stock shows handling and smoothed wear. This is a scarce piece of British history from the period directly following the Crimean War! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33 inches. Caliber: .577 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3365 #200868 SOLD Antique: Yes |
