Large Bore MILITIA Type .67 Caliber FLINTLOCK Musket Antique Brown Bess
Late 1700s to Early 1800s Militia Musket
Description: Large Bore MILITIA Type .67 Caliber FLINTLOCK Musket Antique Brown Bess Late 1700s to Early 1800s Militia Musket Here we present an antique Militia Type Flintlock Musket, made circa the late-18th Century to early 19th Century. This is a slightly smaller, lighter weight musket compared to the larger “Brown Bess” that the British adopted. There is a resemblance, though this piece has a barrel fastened on by bands rather than pins. In fact, the lock does appear to be an early iteration of the Brown Bess or at least a copy. This musket was likely assembled out of scavenged parts. This example follows the American muskets in form and style. The barrel is 38-1/2" in length, shorter than the regular armory flintlocks of 42". British muskets such as these were also exported to the U.S. for militia service as well as for use as ships muskets, etc. As to officer's muskets, there was no official pattern which means that, while many are of smaller caliber, this was not a hard and fast rule. What is consistent is quality and practically every example displays a high level of. The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock is smooth overall and has some little spots of filler around the lock. “E” is hand carved into the right buttstock. Here is a beautiful flintlock rifle that will fit into any collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 38-1/2 inches. Caliber: .67 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
