Description: NEW YORK Antique DOUBLE RIFLE by PHILLIPS Side by Side .44 Cal. Percussion LARGE GAME Double Rifle with POWDER FLASK Here we present an antique E. Phillips Side by Side Percussion Double Rifle, made circa the mid-19th century in New York. This one has a stag ornament on the butt stock. This specimen is a scarce example of an American double rifle from this period. This side by side gun features both barrels in .44 caliber. The barrels are fairly long at 33-5/8 inches. This gun also features double triggers, one for each lock/barrel. This gun would have been intended for hunting medium to large game. The obvious benefit of such a weapon was two shots rather than one in a day that was still dominated by single shot muzzle loaders. The overall condition is very good. The barrels have been refinished brown. The markings are clear. The actions are strong. The hammer screws have been replaced. The bores are in good shape for age with good rifling. Solid stock.
