WAR of 1812 Antique U.S. WILLIAM & JOHN HENRY Model 1808 Flintlock Musket
1 of only 4,500 for COMMONWEALTH of PENNSYLVANIA
Description: WAR of 1812 Antique U.S. WILLIAM & JOHN HENRY Model 1808 Flintlock Musket 1 of only 4,500 for COMMONWEALTH of PENNSYLVANIA Here we present an antique William and John Henry Contract Model 1808 Flintlock Musket, manufactured circa 1810 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This gun is one of approximately 4,500 reported to have been delivered by William and John J. Henry circa 1809-1812 under a 10,000 gun U.S. Government contract, based on the Harpers Ferry Armory pattern Model 1795 muskets. William and John Henry were one of 19 gunmakers contracted by the U.S. government to manufacture the Model 1808 Musket. Many of these, prior to the start of the Civil War, were converted to the percussion firing system. Arms were scarce at the start of the war, and many so called “obsolete” weapons were brought out of storage and pushed into service. The War of 1812 was a conflict lasting about three years that was fought between the United States and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The conflict began when the United States declared war in June of 1812 and ended in a restoration of the pre-war status quo when a peace treaty agreed to earlier was ratified by the United States in February 1815. Its eventual consequences included the establishment of a separate Canadian state and an end of hopes for an independent American Indian confederation in the Northwest opening the way for the western expansion of the United States. Marked “CP” on the lock plate for Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The overall condition is that of a relic. Original flintlock. Dark, weathered patina throughout. The stock has been repaired at the wrist (moves slightly) and features old filler and various signs of heavy weathering and wear throughout. The lock is still strong. The bore is dark and smooth. Barrel slightly shortened long ago. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 41 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast.
