REVOLUTIONARY WAR Era Antique RICHARD WILSON London FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS
BRASS BARRELED “MINORIES-LONDON” Marked Longarm
Description: REVOLUTIONARY WAR Era Antique RICHARD WILSON London FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS BRASS BARRELED “MINORIES-LONDON” Marked Longarm Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Revolutionary War Era Richard Wilson Brass Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa 1750 to 1770 in London, England. Richard Wilson was the first of a multigenerational family named and owned arms making company in the Minories. He was born to parents who were originally from the county of Westmorland and he was baptized in the church of St. Bottolph’s Aldgate in London in 1703. He was apprenticed to London gunmaker Thomas Green for 7 years. Upon the completion of his apprenticeship in 1725 he continued to work for Thomas and then Thomas’s wife Agnes when Thomas had passed away. They made guns on contract for the Hudson’s Bay Company as well as the Royal African Company. He took over this business from Agnes and gained The Honourable East India Company as a client in 1733. He appears to have been making guns for North America by about 1735, documents mentioning his arms by name noting their desirability. The multi-stage barrel is estimated at around 10 bore for most of its length and measures 1-1/4 inches at the muzzle. The barrel is marked “MINORIES-LONDON” on top and has London proof marks flanking Wilson's “RW” maker's mark on the left. The rounded lock is signed “WILSON”. The walnut stock has a military style design, including the plateau at the barrel tang. This particular example is highly likely to have been used in the American Revolutionary War on the side that didn’t win! The overall condition is very good. Beautiful aged brass. The wood has been restored with a splice in the forend. Good bore for its age. The action is strong. The stock has a thin split around the bottom of the forward grip. The markings are legible. Barrel is 16 inches. Caliber: 10 Bore Flintlock flaring to 1-1/4 inches at the muzzle. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
