"U.S. Jenks Navy Rifle ""Mule Ear"" Breech Loading rifle .54 caliber (AL8171) DTX

Description:
"NSN, circa 1841-1842, .54 caliber, 35"" round barrel. Barrel shows traces of original brown finish with scattered areas of grey oxidation noted. Traces of case coloring or visible on lock plate that is marked ""N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD/MASS/W.JENKS. Breech is dated dated 1844 and is correctly marked. Stock has minor nicks, dings and scratches. Bore is very good with strong rifling noted. Only 1000 of this example were manufactured and delivered to the Navy in 1844 (DALLAS LOCATION)
