1860 Spencer Sporting Rifle .56-46 Antique Centerfire
Description: This is a Spencer 1860 Sporting RIfle chambered in .56-46. It has a 28" tapered round barrel. The bore is gray with well defined rifling, but there is scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting. I have fired the rifle many times and it shoots well. I took a chamber cast and formed the brass to match the chamber. It includes 12 pieces of formed brass. I cannot sell loaded ammunition. The breech block is unusual in that it is centerfire and not rimfire. The block, block carrier and lever all have matching serial numbers so it is original to the rifle. I don't know if this was a factory made modification or done later by a gunsmith. The buttstock has a crack on the left side that was repaired very well long ago and shows no signs of weakness or movement. It blends in well with the stock (see photos). The stock and forend have scattered dings and dents. The buttstock has a brass plate on the right side that states it is a "Presentation Model, 1860". I don't believe it is original and don't know it's meaning for being on the rifle, but it looks attractive. The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a ladder style with a V-notch. It is missing the screw on the sliding portion.. The tang is drilled and tapped for a tang sight but none is present and the holes have two period screws installed. The rifle has various serial numbers on components. I believe this is normal for sporting models. They all seem to match in patina and appearance. The action works smoothly and perfectly. It is missing the extractor spring, but the ejector still ejects cases properly. Replacements are available from various online sources. There are some small amounts of original finish on the metal components. The metal is smooth and has a nice shine. The stocks do not appear to have been sanded or refinished. Overall an attractive firearm that I would rates as very good condition. This is an antique and does not need to ship to an FFL. Buyer pays actual shipping costs. $2900.00 SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .56-56 Spencer |
