Description:
EARLY, PISTOL GRIP, CHECKERED MARLIN MODEL 1893, .38-55 OCTAGON RIFLE, #128XXX, MADE 1895. This is a fine example that retains nearly all of the deep original blue finish on the barrel and magazine. The case colored receiver has faded to a mottled gray with small amounts of good case color in the most protected areas. Original sights include a buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Excellent markings with good blue on the loading gate. The butt stock shows some normal handling/hunting marks with some small dings in the wood around the upper tang on the left side along with a very small chip at the corner of the upper tang/receiver juncture. Checkering on the pistol grip and forend is worn, but all visible. Springs are strong and the safety half cock notch holds well. the action is tight and the bore is near excellent with fine rifling all the way through and any roughness very minor and surface. A fine deluxe 127 year old 1893 in desirable .38-55 caliber.
