Marlin 1881 45 Govt. possibly first Lever Guide gun in 45-70
Description: This rifle was made in 1881 or 1882 as Marlin did not keep records for serial below # 4001. serial # 27XX would put this as late 1881 or early 1882. Barrel measures 20" to front of receiver and 21" using a ramrod down the barrel to the bolt. Stock has been cleaned and a very old repair to wrist that is very well done. Barrel is marked 45 Govt. and V. Kindler East Saginaw that was a large distributer and retailer.Half magazine and very smooth action. Only 7 rifles with s/n over the 4001 had barrels shorter than 24". This rifle could be the first lever action Guide Gun made in the 45-70 caliber as Winchester did not offer 45-70 untill the 1886 model. Everything appears to be original to the rifle with a plumb patina on receiver and barrel. Will consider offers. No FFL required for this one. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .45-70 Government |
