NICE Antique DANISH MODEL Remington Rolling Block Model 1867 MILITARY Rifle Mid-1880s INFANTRY RIFLE w/BAYONET & SCABBARD
Description: NICE Antique DANISH MODEL Remington Rolling Block Model 1867 MILITARY Rifle Mid-1880s INFANTRY RIFLE w/BAYONET & SCABBARD Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block Model 1867 Military Rifle, made circa 1884 at the Kjobenhavns Toihuus Arsenal at Copenhagen for the Danish Army. Denmark was the first of a long list of countries that would adopt the Remington Rolling Block for their militaries, after Sam Remington’s exhibition trip to Europe in 1866. Norway and Sweden each followed suit. The appeal of the Rolling Block was its strong, simple action. Though repeating rifles were becoming more and more refined and prevalent in civilian circles, militaries all around the world were still married to the idea of large bore, single shot rifles. Denmark’s initial chambering was for a rimfire cartridge, but they soon adopted a centerfire cartridge. With tons of the older rimfire ammunition still around, modifications were performed so that the rifles could fire either centerfire or rimfire by simply backing out the screw on the left side of the breech block and putting the firing pin through the appropriate aperture. This specimen was manufactured in Denmark circa 1884, having been licensed to do so by Remington and paying a royalty. There is a long bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel for mounting a long saber bayonet. The cleaning rod screws in tight in the channel. “KJOBENHAVNS TOIHUUS, 1884” is stamped into the receiver tang, which is the arsenal and year of manufacture. Crowned proof marks can be found throughout. The front sight is windage adjustable and the rear sight is a large folding leaf going out to an optimistic 2100 meters. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish and case colors. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock is smooth and solid. The numbers match on the rifle. The bayonet is in nice condition. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-1/2 inches. Caliber: 11.7x42R Centerfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
