Rare Antique AMBERG ARSENAL GEWEHR Model 1871 Single Shot MILITARY Rifle
First Rifle Manufactured by PAUL & WILHELM MAUSER
Description: Rare Antique AMBERG ARSENAL GEWEHR Model 1871 Single Shot MILITARY Rifle First Rifle Manufactured by PAUL & WILHELM MAUSER Here we present an antique Mauser Gewehr Model 1871 Imperial German Rifle, made circa 1877 in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the Amberg Arsenal. With the Franco-Prussian War recently decided, each of the combatants went right to work replacing their single-shot breech-loading rifles that had utilized paper cartridges (namely the Dreyse on the German side). These were found to be highly inefficient and unreliable with ammunition still vulnerable to moisture. Along came Peter Paul Mauser, a rising star in the Prussian small arms industry. He and his brother Wilhelm developed what was to become their first successful bolt action military rifle, adopted as the Gewehr 71 or Infanterie-Gewehr 71, or "Infantry Rifle 71 ("I.G. Mod.71" was stamped on the rifles themselves, as is this one). When the design was updated to include the 8-round tubular magazine (designed by Alfred von Kropatschek) in 1884, it became a repeater known as the Model 1871/84. It was a great success and was adopted en masse by the Prussian military, as well as many other nations. The overall condition is very good. Robust, smooth action. Bright bore, deep rifling. The stock is solid throughout containing an average amount of wear (minor dents and dings). Visible numbers match. “1880” marked receiver. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-1/2 inches. Caliber: 11x60mmR Black Powder Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #217590 SOLD Antique: Yes |
