"Large 18th Century British Flintlock Musketoon (AL7051) DTX

"This large cannon muzzle British dog lock flintlock musketoon is circa 1750. The overall length is approx. 43.5"". It weighs approx. 13.5 pounds. The 27"" round brass barrel measures 1 7/8"" at the muzzle. The slightly tapered smooth bore is good with a slight bulge toward the chamber. It has three London proof marks at the breech. The barrel, butt plate, and side plate have an even aged brass patina. The lock is marked M over RICHARDSON at he center. It, and the cock, have decorative engraving. They have an even light brown patina. The side plate has an open decorative scroll. The iron trigger guard has light pitting. The ramrod is present. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips and only light to moderate wear. The butt plate is attached with six nails. Based on the flat butt plate shape, this musketoon was most likely used on board a ship. The dog lock action, with its strong mainspring, functions correctly. If you collect British naval weapons or musketoons, this one is for you!
