RARE AMERICAN COLONIAL ERA SPANISH BUTT MATCHLOCK MILITARY MUSKET W/SUHL TOUCHMARK. CIRCA 1600-1625.
Description: RARE AMERICAN COLONIAL ERA SPANISH BUTT MATCHLOCK MILITARY MUSKET W/SUHL TOUCHMARK. CIRCA 1600-1625. 54” overall with 39” round .75 caliber barrel. Iron mounted walnut stock with fluted “SPANISH” style butt which is quite rare and desirable. Incise carved bordering along the perimeter of the butt stock and the forend. Plain lock plate with “M” and “FLORAL SPRAY/LS” touchmarks of Suhl origin. Very good to fine overall with metal excellent. Stock with the fine worm holes attesting to it’s originality. Toe of the butt an old repair along with repair at wrist and forend but all the original wood(typical for every one weve ever had considering it's age). Working order and excellent bore. An almost identical musket is pictured on page 34, vol. 1 of George Moller’s AMERICAN MILITARY SHOULDER ARMS-COLONIAL AND REVOLUTIONARY WAR ARMS. Type used by the earliest New England and Virginia raised bands and militias. SOLD Antique: Yes |
