This 58 caliber percussion U.S. Model 1855 Rifle Musket was made by Springfield Armory in 1859. The 40"" round barrel has a fine bore with strong rifling. The barrel has the V over P over eagle on the left flat at the breech and 1859 on the top flat. All the metal is polished bright. The stock is fine with no cracks or chips, sharp edges, very light issue wear, and a visible cartouche on the left flat. The action, including the Maynard tape priming mechanism, functions correctly. This is a very nice U.S. Model 1855 Rifle Musket. These are a must for any Civil War collection.
