"U.S. Model 1861 Contract Musket by William Mason (AL4655)

"U.S. Model 1861 Contract Musket by William Mason U.S. Model 1861 Contract Musket by William Mason Taunton, Massachusetts. This model has the extremely rare lockplate that is marked “US Taunton". Lock is dated 1862. Metal is all nickel plated. Barrel is dated 1863. Stock is good, shows minor handling wear. Butt plate has an area of wear, some of the nickel has come off. We don’t know why the gun was nickel plated, but it looks to be of the period. Great Civil War era rare contract musket.
