This Belgian copy of the Swiss Model 1851 Stutzer rifle is in fine condition. While the Swiss Model 1851 is chambered in 10.4mm, the first European small bore military caliber, this rifle is in the earlier widely-used 18mm. The overall length is approx. 50"". The approx. 35.5"" octagon 18mm barrel has an excellent bore with multiple lands and grooves with a little frosting in the grooves. The front sight is a small blade and the rear is a large Swiss type elevation adjustable sight. All the metal retains approx.95% of its original dull military blue finish. The exterior of this rifle is unmarked. The lock internal parts, the barrel channel, and barrel are serial numbered 48. The sling swivels and ramrod are present. The stock is very good with small age cracks at the left forearm tip at the barrel key and at the action screw. There are no other cracks or chips. It features the typical Swiss style schuetzen butt plate. The action, including the double set trigger mechanism, functions correctly. This large rifle is accompanied with an original bayonet that fits perfectly. The flat at the shank is marked LM. This is a rare and interesting rifle.
