Description: 1800s CORNISH, NEW HAMPSHIRE Antique D.H. HILLIARD TARGET RIFLE .40 Caliber GERMAN SILVER, NEW ENGLAND Here we present an antique D.H. Hilliard Target Rifle, manufactured in Cornish, New Hampshire, circa the mid-1800s. David Hilliard was a noted maker of underhammer pistols and rifles, along with standard percussion rifles. The works of Hilliard, Nicanor Kendall, and Asa Story all bear some resemblance and the style is unique to this area. This one features an octagonal barrel with turned down muzzle in .40 caliber. Target peep rear sight and ringed front sight in addition to the standard barrel-mounted rear sight. Half-length stock with patchbox. Engraved Leman of Lancaster lock and some German silver accents. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. Solid stock with minor chipping at the rear of the lock and expected handling wear. Clear markings with somewhat worn engraving on the lock. Strong action. The bore is dimmed with a frosty appearance and has good rifling. A great piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26 inches.
