Antique NEW YORK Back Action TARGET Rifle
Description: Antique NEW YORK Back Action TARGET Rifle 19th Century Half Stock Long Rifle Here we present an antique New York Back Action Target Rifle, made in New York. These were called “back action” because the mainspring hangs behind the tumbler. The back action is often used in double rifles and occasionally in single barrel shotguns where the need for strength requires as little steel as possible be removed from the bar of the action. This lock was popular on percussion guns made in St. Louis, New York, California, Ohio, England and Belgium. Back Action percussion locks were a “late” developed style of lock. Used primarily on the hardware store line of guns, these locks did, however, show up on some better pieces in the mid-to-late 1800′s. Back Action locks are extremely fast and are often used on competition, squirrel, and light-weight boy’s rifles. This rifle features an octagonal barrel with a turned down muzzle. The front sight is a beaded post with a hood that flips up and down. One rear sight is a foldable aperture target sight and then there is the standard rear buckhorn sight. The top of the barrel is marked with what may be “ALBANY”, though it is obscured by age and wear, as well as “NEW YORK”. The lock and hammer both feature engraving. The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are mostly legible. The bore is dusty with defined rifling. The stock is in fair condition with repairs around the forearm and the stock opposite the lock. The action on this rifle is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-5/8 inches. Caliber: .34 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1400 #6464 SOLD Antique: Yes |
