Description: Orate and compelling .52 caliber percussion sporting carbine by Charles Pirko (1831-1867, Vienna). Made in Austria, this wonderful little rifle has a 19-inch Damascus barrel (1.65-inch diameter across the flared-to-octagon muzzle flats, integral rib with blade front sight and two-leaf rear sight - folding blade has aperture as well as notch). Features include a double set trigger (works properly), figured walnut stock (triple-bordered checkering, scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, box with carved lid, metal butt with tapering comb extension, wood grip extension and sling loops. ENGRAVING: Lock, guard, hammer, forearm cap and butt are appointed with fine scroll while the barrel is dressed with wire accents as well as the maker's name in gold. The numeral “2” appears on barrel and tang as well, indicating this is part of a pair or set. Weight is 7.2 pounds. CONDITION: The bore is very good with general browning and light uniform frosting in the grooves. Lands are strong. Mechanics are and wood are solid. Engraving is sharp. Metal surfaces are approximately 90 percent with light browning. The ramrod guide has been reattached. Wood, as restored, is well over 90 percent.
