ENGRAVED Antique JOHN WURFFLEIN Half Stock BACK ACTION .40 Percussion Rifle Made by the Founder of the SHUETZEN VEREIN
Description: ENGRAVED Antique JOHN WURFFLEIN Half Stock BACK ACTION .40 Percussion Rifle Made by the Founder of the SHUETZEN VEREIN Here we present an antique Engraved John Wurfflein Half Stock Back Action Percussion Rifle, made circa the 1850s. Wurfflein arrived in New York from Germany in 1844 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After applying for U.S. citizenship in 1848, he was granted his citizenship in 1851. He, along with his brother Andrew, also a gunsmith by trade, worked together for some time, and were two of the six that founded the Shuetzen Verein, a prominent German shooting club in Philadelphia, in 1846. Their work included rifles and pistols, including close copies of their Philadelphia neighbor Henry Deringer’s hit pocket pistol. John retired towards the end of the Civil War in 1864 and passed away in Philadelphia in 1884. These locks were called “back action” because the mainspring hangs behind the tumbler. The back action is often used in single and double rifles, and occasionally in single barrel shotguns where the need for strength requires as little steel as possible be removed from the bar of the action. The overall condition is good. Original brown patina. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example sports a solid stock, that has been lightly refinished, with an average amount of wear/repairs. Light engravings are present, albeit thinned. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 31-1/4 inches. Caliber: .40 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1450 #256043 SOLD Antique: Yes |
