L. L. Hepburn percussion rifle, shotgun combo.
Description: SALE PENDING L. L. Hepburn percussion combination rifle, .36 cal. rifle, over a 12 ga. shotgun. Made in Colton N. Y. probably around the 1860s. Lewis Lobdell Hepburn ran his own gunshop in Colton, a small village in northern NY, from the late 1850s through the 1860s. Interesting man, well worth the time to do an internet search. Best known for his multi barreled percussion rifles Made in Colton, and the classic #3 Remington Hepburn rifles manufactured at Remington's Illion factory while he was "foreman of the mechanical department" there in the 1870s. Later worked for Marlin and was instrumental in the design of the model 1888, 1889, 1893 and subsequent Marlin lever guns. Back to this particular Hepburn, as with most of his older guns the only markings are on the barrel: "L.L. Hepburn, Colton N.Y." Found in Colorado, probably traveled west with a wealthy adventurer after the Civil War. A few misshandling dings here and there but no barrel dents. The right hammer looks like a period, Hepburn, replacement but without checkering on the spur.. One of the ramrods is also a newer replacement. All else looks original, including the folding "lolly pop" tang sight. Flash channels are clear and the bores are suprisingly well cared for, and shootable if you choose to. Rare to find back in circulation, most are in museums or private collections. $80.00 shipping in a hard case. Bank certified check or money order.
