Description: LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY LONG RIFLE by BALTHAZAR AUER .44 Caliber Kentucky Style Percussion Plains Rifle Here we present an antique Balthazar Auer Back Action Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Louisville, Kentucky. Balthazar Auer was a rifle maker in Louisville, Kentucky from 1859 through 1869 before moving his business to Owensboro, Kentucky. The top of the rear sight is marked “AUER”. Interesting rear sight stylistically with a serpentine tail on the front. Blade front sight. This one features a beautiful maple stock, double set triggers, and a Swiss style, thick, brass butt plate. Back action lock. Brass hardware with German silver décor. Its stout 32-inch octagonal barrel is in .44 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. The overall condition is good. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. The bore is in good condition, dark with visible rifling. The stock has a couple minor repairs. The barrel wedge is absent.
