Nice Antique MAKER MARKED Half Stock Plains Rifle
Description: Nice Antique MAKER MARKED Half Stock Plains Rifle Quintessential Pioneer Rifle in .36 Caliber w Precision Sights Here we present an antique Half Stock Percussion Rifle, made circa 1840. The American Longrifle, more commonly, but less correctly, known as the 'Kentucky rifle', was described by Captain John G. W. Dillin in the dedication to his seminal 1924 book, The Kentucky Rifle: “From a flat bar of soft iron, hand forged into a gun barrel; laboriously bored and rifled with crude tools; fitted with a stock hewn from a maple tree in the neighboring forest; and supplied with a lock hammered to shape on the anvil; an unknown smith, in a shop long since silent, fashioned a rifle which changed the whole course of world history; made possible the settlement of a continent; and ultimately freed our country of foreign domination. Light in weight; graceful in line; economical in consumption of powder and lead; fatally precise; distinctly American; it sprang into immediate popularity; and for a hundred years was a model often slightly varied but never radically changed.” This .36 caliber rifle features a stout, octagonal barrel and target sights. The top of the barrel bears the maker’s name, which is somewhat faint, but protected by the rear peep sight. It appears to be something like “T. Pragler”. The front sight is a hooded crosshair, the rear sight on the barrel is a semi-buckhorn, and there is an adjustable hooded peep sight on a leaf spring attached to the rear of the barrel. The lock is a Golcher. The stock has nice curvature at the wrist, which with the trigger guard makes an effective pistol grip. Triggers are double set. All in all, a very nice rifle, clearly meant for precision shooting. The overall condition is very good. The metal parts are dark with age. The stock is solid and smooth. The bore is well-rifled and clean. The action is strong, with no half-cock. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32 inches in length. Caliber: .36 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
