PRUSSIAN Antique POTSDAM M1809 INFANTRY Musket
Description: PRUSSIAN Antique POTSDAM M1809 INFANTRY Musket Made in 1836 at the Armory at Potsdam Here we present an antique Prussian Potsdam Model 1809 Musket, manufactured circa 1836 at the Prussian armory at Potsdam. The Model 1809 was originally made in the flintlock format, with later production shifting to the more modern and reliable percussion firing system. This musket would have been used in Prussian conflicts during the 1840s and 50s, including the Egyptian-Ottoman War, the Greater Poland Uprising, the Revolutions of 1848, and the First Schleswig War, before being sold to the United States government in the first years of the American Civil War. Though thoroughly obsolete, both the Union and the Confederacy were desperate for small arms as the South had little capability to make their own and the North had to scramble to ramp up their own production. This Prussian infantry musket features brass hardware, sling swivels, and numerous markings. The butt plate is dated “1836”. The lock is marked “POTSDAM/G.J.”. The left side of the barrel is marked “1836”. The left side is also marked with numerous inspection and acceptance markings. The right side of the butt stock is hand carved with the name “KEARNEY”. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The area of barrel around the percussion nipple has a bit of heavy pitting. Most of the markings are legible. The smooth bore is dark. The stock is in good shape showing typical use and wear. The action on this musket is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 41-3/8 inches. Caliber: .73 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $975 #6455 SOLD Antique: Yes |
