SCARCE Antique BENJAMIN FLAGG M1842 .69 Musket CIVIL WAR Smoothbore Musket with BAYONET
Description: SCARCE Antique BENJAMIN FLAGG M1842 .69 Musket CIVIL WAR Smoothbore Musket with BAYONET Here we present an antique Benjamin Flagg & Co. U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket, manufactured circa 1849 in Millbury, Massachusetts. From the period of 1844 until 1855, about 275,000 Model 1842 muskets were manufactured at the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories. Small numbers of the Model 1842 muskets were also made by private contractors. Some were made by A.H. Waters and Benjamin Flagg & Co, both of Millbury, Massachusetts. These were distinguished by having brass furniture instead of iron. A.H. Waters went out of business due to a lack of contracts in New England, and Flagg entered into a partnership with William Glaze of South Carolina. They relocated the machinery to the Palmetto Armory in Columbia, South Carolina. There were only 6,020 1842 type muskets produced on that contract and none were made there after 1853. These would have been in the hands of local militia all over the antebellum United States and used by both combatants at the outbreak of the American Civil War. Sights were not included in the smoothbore’s design but arrived later as the muskets were rifled later. The Model 1842 was the first regulation percussion musket to be manufactured at both Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories, as well as the first to be produced by both national armories with fully-interchangeable parts. These were also the last .69 caliber smoothbore arms to be produced by the U.S. government. “B. FLAGG & Co. MILLBURY 1849” is marked vertically at the tail of the lock. The center of the lock features the US federal eagle over “US”. The overall condition is good. Weather marked and dark patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and slightly reflective. The stock shows the kind of use and age you would expect of a pre-American Civil War military arm. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1900 #228524 SOLD Antique: Yes |
