SCARCE Antique SIMEON NORTH M1833 Hall Percussion SR Carbine RAMROD BAYONET 1838 mfg. Breech Loading SADDLE RING Carbine
Description: SCARCE Antique SIMEON NORTH M1833 Hall Percussion SR Carbine RAMROD BAYONET 1838 mfg. Breech Loading SADDLE RING Carbine Here Ancestry Guns presents a Scarce Antique Simeon North U.S. Contract Model 1833 Hall Breech Loading Saddle Ring Carbine with a Triangular Ramrod Bayonet made in 1838 in Middleton, Connecticut. The Model 1833 is historically significant as the first percussion firearm adopted by the U.S. Government and also the first U.S. martial arm to employ an under-barrel bayonet that slides into the ramrod channel. 1,028 were manufactured in .58 caliber in 1834, and 6,135 were manufactured in .52 caliber in 1836-1839. This one comes from the next to the final year of production and has standard markings and features. The Model 1833 was primarily used in conflicts with Native Americans in the Arkansas Territory and Florida, in the Mexican-American War, and some even remained in use during the American Civil War. This example has “U.S/S.NORTH/MIDLtn/CONN./1838” marked on the breech block. There are “NWP” inspection initials on the upper left of the breech, an oval bordered “NWP” cartouche stamped on the left stock flat, an oval bordered cartouche on top of the buttstock, and period carved initials “WFM” on the right of the buttstock. The overall condition is good. Bright gray patina on the barrel. Remnants of original finish on the lock. The stock is solid with less than average handling wear. The top of the wrist has been cracked and repaired. The markings throughout are legible. Excellent action. The smoothbore is dark and remains good. A cartouche is present on the left wrist. Stable grain split on the left buttstock towards the toe. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26 1/4 inches.
