1 of 2000 Made for British Use in the CRIMEAN WAR!
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. British Contract Greene Patent Breech Loading Percussion Carbine manufactured circa 1855-57. According to "Flayderman's Guide" (9th Edition, 9B-057) only 2,000 Greene carbines were manufactured by the Mass. Arms Company, with all but a few hundred reportedly being scrapped for parts later, with few seeing actual military service. They differ from the American type in the larger .577 caliber with the use of Queen Victoria's “St. Edward's Crown/VxR” cipher behind the hammer on the lock, the British proofmarks, the shorter barrel, the hexa-decagonal section ahead of the rear sight, the sling ring on the lower tang, and the use of steel for the buttplate and patch box instead of brass.
The over condition is very fine. Original blue barrel finish and traces of case coloring o the lock and hammer. Excellent action. Shiny bright bore with sharp rifling. The stock is fine with light handling wear and is marked “1/F/7/RDMR” on the right side. British proof marks are found throughout on various components. Visible numbers match “164”.
