STATE of NEW YORK MILITIA Remington M1871 ROLLING BLOCK Antique .50-70 GOVT Unit Marked Post-Civil War Militia Rifle from NY!
Description: STATE of NEW YORK MILITIA Remington M1871 ROLLING BLOCK Antique .50-70 GOVT Unit Marked Post-Civil War Militia Rifle from NY! Here we present an antique State of New York Militia Remington Rolling Block Rifle, made circa 1872 in Ilion, New York. The Remington Rolling Block rifle is a breech-loading rifle that was produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The state of New York purchased about 15,000 rolling block rifles and carbines from Remington circa 1872. These can be distinguished by the extremely high curved hammer spur, thumb lever for the breechblock that protrudes outward instead of up and the safety locking action which automatically returns the hammer to half cock when the breech is closed. They used the standard Remington military round top, rolling block action with a 36-inch round barrel in 50-70 CF caliber. The upper tang has the standard three-line Remington address/patent dates. The Remington Rolling Block would serve New York until the 1890s, and sources indicate these rolling blocks served with NY Militiamen deployed out West during the Indian Wars. This example is marked “H” and “69” on the stock and “27” stamped on the barrel and comb of the stock. This likely refers to Company H, rack number 69, and gun number 27. The left side of the butt stock bears two good Ordnance Department inspector cartouches and the right side of the wrist bears one from the State of New York. The overall condition is very good. The bore is shiny bright with fine rifling. The action is excellent. Steel left bright. A fantastic and very functional single shot rifle from the 1870s! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 36 inches. Caliber: .50-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #190829 SOLD Antique: Yes |
