#1421 Springfield 1884 Trapdoor carbine, 343XXX?
(1887 mfgr)
Description: #1421 Springfield 1884 Trapdoor carbine, 343XXX? (1887 mfgr) with the 1890 rear sight protector barrel band upgrade. Caliber 45Govt with decent bore (about a 6+ to 7 on a scale of 10), very good action, and tight breech block. The lock markings are rather dim (see photos), probably due to some light pitting and excessive cleaning, and the cartouche on the stock is also worn away. Both the metal and wood look a bit better than most carbines that are in “VG”condition, with the exception of the nasty sliver chip at the left side of the breech pin lock area. It does have an incorrect rear “R” marked Buffington sight, the condition also being slightly different, so no doubt has been replaced at some time. The serrated trigger and 1884 dated breech block are the correct for this serial range. The metal is a smooth even grey-brown color overall and the wood has no serious blemishes aside of the left side chip and some medium slivering at the nose. A decent “middle-of-the-road” Cavalrymans weapon of the late Indian Wars Era. VG $1445 Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes Price: $1445 Contact Seller |
