Description: 19th Century IMPERIAL BRITISH BROWN BESS Military Musket Smoothbore .75 Cal With Colonial Alteration Here we present an antique British Brown Bess altered to Percussion in Colonial Fashion. This military musket saw the flintlock hardware removed and the original cock formed into a percussion hammer. A six inch extension was also put on the barrel. A faint brazing line can be seen and the musket has been like this for almost 200 years. The overall condition is fair to good. Even patina throughout. Crudely converted to percussion. The action is strong with only a full cock notch. The bore is smooth and untouched. The barrel has been lengthened by about 6 inches, long ago. An additional ramrod tube was also fastened to the under barrel ahead of the stock. The stock shows much use. Both sides of the fore end show splitting and some repair. Climate related splitting along the grain is also observed behind the lock and the right side of the butt stock. A large chip was lost long ago from the left side of the barrel tang. A heart was carved in the wrist. The top of the barrel is Birmingham proofed. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 44-1/2 inches.
