Description: ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN Antique BEUTLER & TRAVER LONG RIFLE REMINGTON BARREL & SPIES LOCK Here we present an antique Beutler & Traver Long Rifle made circa the mid-1800s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Charles L. Beutler & Richard C. Traver advertised themselves as “successors to A.J. Sutherland” and “manufacturers of and dealers in guns & pistols”. A.J. Sutherland established the business circa August of 1850. Beutler & Traver appear to have taken over the business by October of 1862. Charles L. Beutler (b. 1833 in Baden-Württemberg, Germany) was a veteran of the 8th Michigan Cavalry during the American Civil War and he died January 19 of 1869 at the young age of 35. Traver took over the shop completely at this time. The overall condition is good. Dark patina throughout. The action is strong. The bore is dim with strong rifling. The stock has been repaired on both side of the forestock, is missing two pieces around the barrel tang, and shows use throughout. The top of the barrel is marked with the makers of the gun from Ann Arbor, Michigan. They built the gun with a Spies lock and a Remington barrel. A very neat piece of history! Own the original!
